studio information

Overview:

The goal of these lessons is to allow the student to learn and grow to become the vocalist, musician & performer they want to become. As with any vocal lessons, the goal of the student is to become a better singer. We will work towards other goals such as:

  • Building up healthy mix, belt & classical vocal technique

  • Understanding the goal of optimal performance

  • Putting together a musical theatre “book” that you feel confident, comfortable and excited about

  • Development of vocal, aural & musical skills (including music literacy & sight reading)

  • Understanding how the voice, mind & body work together

  • Expressive and musical singing

  • Becoming the best singer you can be!

What you can expect from me:

I will teach you to sing and practice the art of music in a way that is healthiest for each individual voice. I will strengthen your vocal abilities with current vocal pedagogy while simultaneously boosting musicianship and acting through song. I will work to fit each singer’s individual needs while building a community of virtual performers that support and uplift each other. You can expect that I will share my love and passion for music, singing, and storytelling through song with you! My goal is to create a studio of well-trained, intelligent singers who are not only strong vocalists and actors, but bright musicians.

What I expect from you:

To arrive at each lesson prompt, ready to sing, and healthy. I also expect that since you desire to grow as a singer, regular if not daily practice is necessary. Occasionally, virtual video/recording assignments may be required.

Each student is responsible for keeping track of the required music and materials for lessons. I suggest that voice students keep a binder with their assigned music three-hole-punched so that it is always prepared for pianists to play in lessons, rehearsals, auditions, performances etc. In the case of other written assignments, those are expected to be kept in the binder as well. I will provide virtual photocopies of music and any assignments that students may either print or use virtually to follow along and learn from. Occasionally, purchasing of scores or vocal books may be necessary to participate in competitions or performances. Advance notice will be provided in this case.

Students must make time to practice at home. I typically recommend a voice/practice notebook for students that would like to keep track of any vocalises, exercises, vocal techniques or questions throughout the lesson as well as tracking their practice time. Taking notes and/or audio recording during lessons is encouraged.

Parents: If something is happening at home or school that is affecting your child please let me know. The more information I have, the more I can be sensitive to the needs of your child.
